Ruskin’s Medieval Collections
The exhibition takes as its starting point the visual qualities that Ruskin attributes to the written language, understood less as specimens of text than as opportunities for image-making centred in research by Professor Marcus Waithe (University of Cambridge). The exhibition will explore medieval and classical versions of the word that admit colour, figuration, materiality, light and depth, along with other themes relating to manuscript illumination and design based on research by Professor Sandra Kemp and Dr Sophie Ambler (University of Lancaster).
